Block Quote

"I spent 8 years unable to see well enough to make pictures. Now that I have recovered much of the use of my sight the whole world of photography has changed. The film has become digital, the darkroom has become a lighted computer screen, the trays, chemicals, hangers and tongs have become photo editing software. Things have been blurred so long and now I see beauty and value in all things around me."

"Art is not made, it is discovered. The art has always existed. The artist simply uncovers it and shows it to others."

"I do not really make the pictures, the camera has a mind of its own. I may shoot a particular angle trying for a specific look but, when I later look at the images suddenly the camera choses an image that jumps from the screen."

    'Twas The Day After Christmas
Snow, snow, snow. I am reminded of something that happened many years ago at a family Christmas Eve party in the rural hills for Southern Indiana.

Charlie Sobrige was born September 14, 1891 (the same day as my father). He was my wife's grandfather. As a youth he had gone out west and worked as a real life cowboy. He then came back to Indiana and married Annie Etienne. He was a farmer all his life and by 1974 he was retired.

Charlie didn't drink any time during the year except the two family parties on Christmas and New Year Eves. The order of the night was a  family euchre tournament (a card game) coupled with wine and what they called "high balls". Charlie had a few of these "high balls" and not being accustomed to strong drink was feeling pretty good. That is when this 83 year old said, "Thank God Christmas only comes twice a year." (Meaning the two parties).

The rest of the family talked about that at every Christmas Eve party for years.
